Synthetic star sapphire is laboratory-created corundum, the mineral form of aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃). It can be blue, pink, purple, yellow, grey, white or nearly black. Unlike transparent faceted sapphire, it is usually translucent to opaque because of fine internal inclusions.
